Day 1: Masai Mara National Reserve
Depart early in the morning for the Masai Mara National Reserve, one of the last remaining places on earth where wildlife thrives in undisturbed numbers. As the northern tip of the expansive Serengeti ecosystem, the Mara is famous for the spectacular seasonal migration of thousands of wildebeest and zebras, accompanied by their predators. Arrive in time for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive to witness the incredible wildlife.
Day 2: Masai Mara National Reserve
After breakfast, enjoy a full-day game drive with a packed lunch provided. The reserve is renowned for its black-manned lions, abundant resident wildlife, and opportunities to see the Big Five within a single morning game drive. Many of the cheetahs here are quite accustomed to humans and may even seek shade under your vehicle or climb onto the roof for a better view of potential prey. Bird enthusiasts will delight in the nearly 500 recorded species, including 16 species of eagles, various hawks and falcons, and the world’s heaviest flying bird, the Kori bustard.
Day 3: Lake Nakuru National Park
Start your day with an early morning pickup and drive to Lake Nakuru National Park, famed for its stunning flamingos and alkaline waters, recognized as one of the natural wonders of the world. Lake Nakuru is now a rhino sanctuary, home to over 40 black and 60 white rhinos. However, the flamingos remain the main attraction, with numbers sometimes reaching nearly 2 million, creating a breathtaking pink band around the lake’s edge. Arrive in time for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive.
Day 4: Lake Naivasha National Park
Drive early to Lake Naivasha, the highest and most picturesque of the Rift Valley lakes. At 1910 meters (6200 feet), the lake is fresh and surrounded by dense papyrus clumps, which were historically used by the ancient Egyptians to create paper. Birdwatching is a highlight here, with over 400 recorded species. The lake is also a popular weekend retreat for Nairobi residents who enjoy sailing, water skiing, and fishing. Notably, there are no crocodiles due to the cold water, but hippos abound. Enjoy an afternoon boat ride on Lake Naivasha.
Day 5: Amboseli National Park
Set off early for Amboseli National Park, arriving in time to check in and have lunch. The afternoon game drive offers a chance to explore the park, which is located south of Nairobi. Amboseli features a dry, ancient lake bed, fragile grasslands, and patches of acacia woodland, with rocky volcanic hills in the southern area. The lush vegetation around the Ol Kenya, Ol Tukai, and Enkongo Narok swamps provides a stark contrast to the dry surroundings. Dinner and overnight accommodations will be at a campsite or lodge.
Day 6: Amboseli National Park
Rise early to enjoy stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro before clouds cover its peak. After breakfast, a packed lunch can be taken with you for a full day of exploration. Optional visits to a Maasai village can be arranged, offering a glimpse into their daily lives and sacred rituals, complete with singing and dancing. Despite the changing environment, Amboseli is one of the best places in Africa to observe elephants up close, as they feed and bathe in the swamps, unharassed by poachers.
Day 7: Amboseli to Nairobi
Enjoy a final morning game drive in Amboseli before transferring to Nairobi in the afternoon, with lunch en route. Arrive in Nairobi around 5 PM, concluding your unforgettable safari adventure.
